ASSOCIATE TRAINER
  • Competent Communicator, Toastmasters International
  • President, NTU Toastmasters Club 2009/2010
Mr. Gerard Lim is the current President of NTU Toastmasters Club (TMC) and holds a diploma in Biotechnology. Driven by motivation and challenges, Gerard strives for excellence when it comes to the things he does.  During his journey as an undergraduate in Ngee Ann Poly (NP), he took up many leadership roles such as being a school co-ordinator in BP-NP mentoring and as an instructor in NP Hearing Impaired (HI) Club.

He was formerly a welfare officer in NTU TMC, partaking logistics duties such as the preparation of refreshments and organising gatherings. Passionately driven by his commitments towards toastmasters, he further expanded his skills by taking up the position of publicity officer for the NTU NIE Speech Contest 2009, and ultimately became the President-Elect for NTU TMC 2009/10.

Representing NTU as an ambassador in the year 2008, he was given the opportunity to interact and advise potential undergraduates in their area of interests. He was promoted to become an Ambassador Leader in the year 2009 and being closely affiliated with NTU TMC, he was invited to give a speech on etiquette and communication skills for the prospective ambassadors by the University.

Gerard also served as a school co-ordinator for Yu Neng Primary School. There, he was responsible for a class of approximately 20 mentor-mentee pairings, and assumed the role of an advisor, a mentor, as well as ensuring the success of each mentoring session. He was subsequently awarded a certificate of appreciation in recognition for his 3 year commitment towards the club.

Gerard started off as an enthusiastic learner in Sign Language, but gradually progressed to become an instructor in the basic and advanced courses of sign language in NP HI Club. His role involved teaching keen learners in the basic and advanced communications as well as the appreciation of song signings.

His work experiences have also provided great opportunities for him to develop relevant communication skills. These include being a child care teacher were he gained valuable experience in the discipline and education of the younger generation and helping out with corporate and government events. Gerard also served as a staff writer in the Army and received an outstanding award for his performance.

Striving to make a difference in the lives of others and to share his insight and experiences in public speaking, Gerard is a passionate leader who will go the extra mile for those willing to learn. And that is the meaning, which he seeks in life.
